KEYS Citizen Questions, Hopes, and Concerns
about School District Consolidation Ð Oct./Nov. 2007
www.keysregion.org
Do you think the changes called for in the current law will create cost savings for the KEYS region schools?
á Is it possible that mergers will create a decrease in state spending for education, but that the KEYS towns will actually see an increase in spending for education? Is the state asking the KEYS region to help the state as a whole spend less on education by paying more locally?
á Has the state prepared sample spread sheets and graphs that show the effects of school mergers, by year, for 5-10 years?
Please share your thoughts about these potential opportunities that were of interest to citizens:
á the possibility of creating schools where students with special needs or special talents could be brought together for opportunities unavailable to them at present (sometimes referred to as magnet schools);
á the possibility of developing new curricular opportunities as a result of enlarged and more diverse districts.
What are your thoughts about citizens wanting to slow down the process of consolidation so that there can be more discussion, more detailed information, and more citizen input and buy-in?
