CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO WORKED ON THIS! SIX TOWNS, INCLUDING THE KEYS TOWNS, HAVE BEEN AWARDED (conditional on contracts and other processes going forward) A $500,000 GRANT DUE TO THIS COLLABORATIVE WORK!
Written at the start of the project:
All four towns in the KEYS region have active and engaged energy committees. It has become evident that there is growing interest in lowering carbon emissions in our region as well as finding more sustainable ways to approach energy use and production.
The recent focus on energy efficiency by both the federal government and the state of Maine has highlighted the potential for significant energy savings, emissions reductions and a major new growth industry for the state and region. In York County, the recent Bi-state Green project highlighted the relationship between energy efficiency and economic development.
By working together our region may have a better chance of funding some important energy projects. Our priority is to submit a proposal for a block grant for stimulus money which would fund weatherization, energy savings and installation of solar technologies, as well as education and training programs in KEYS towns and other communities in Southern York County that may join with us.
Other joint projects have also been proposed, and these will be addressed as time and resources become available.
